Higher risk of less experienced swimmers this weekend!

As some of you may know, suction entrapment (the act of literally being stuck on a main drain) has been a major issue in swimming pools for many years. A few years ago, there was a Federal Law called the Virginia Graeme Baker Act (VGB) signed, requiring that swimming pools become compliant by taken steps toward reducing suction entrapment risk.

Yesterday, the U.S. Consumer Safety Protection Agency issued a RECALL for a variety of main drain covers because they were improperly tested for VGB compliance. Wading Pools and Kiddie Pools are the highest risk areas and you MAY find that your wading or kiddie pool will be closed until the main drain cover can be replaced/retrofitted.

This means that non-experienced swimmers who normally enjoy the wading or kiddie pool areas, may chose to venture into the main pool even though they are not 100% comfortable.

We ask that you be extra diligent and cautious of this situation, and that you put your common sense and training to good use when lifeguarding this Memorial Day long weekend.

Be Safe!
