The best summer jobs for teens!
Tuesday, April 26th, 2011By Steve Tarlow – Finance

The recession has made getting a job more difficult for everyone, but if you’re a teenager looking for summer jobs, the competition can be overwhelming. Nothing ventured, nothing gained still applies, however – even at minimum wage. Here are some hot summer jobs that typically employ younger, less experienced workers.
The kids are alright, thanks to the babysitter
Baby sitting and nanny positions will always need to be filled, and responsible, energetic young people who remain cool under fire are a good fit. Laura Davis, owner of College Nannies & Tutors franchises in three states told Bankrate that her company places hundreds of teens in such summer jobs. Another company named Care.com has connections with thousands of local colleges that help connect prospective caregivers with families.
Make it a Meatballs summer
There are typically jobs available at summer camps for kids, including day camps, weeklong or for the entire summer season. If a teen is active and outgoing, teaching children about camping or canoeing can be a breeze. According to Sandy Blondin of Fox Valley Special Recreation Association of Aurora, Ill., there are numerous benefits for teens beyond a paycheck.
“Being on a summer day camp staff offers important skills in team building, leadership, problem-solving and child development,” she said.
Check out websites like American Camp Association, Summer Camp Jobs and Camp Channel for links to summer camp jobs for teens.
Test the waters of being a lifeguard
Warm summer temperatures mean that beaches, water parks and public pools around the country will be open for business. Career websites like Simply Hired have more than 1,000 summer jobs listed for lifeguards, and that’s just one site. For teens who are strong swimmers and have certifications in CPR and first aid, spending golden summer days by the ocean or pool is a slam dunk. The key is to apply now.
“These numbers are promising for those looking for employment this summer,” says Daniel Greenberg, chief marketing officer of Simply Hired.
Summer amusement at the park
Summer is the busy season for most amusement parks in the U.S., and seasonal jobs must be filled. According to Bankrate, Six Flags Great America near Chicago hires 3,200 season employees for groundskeeping, ticket sales and entertainment. Disney and other chains look to fill similar positions. Free park admission is typically a benefit of these summer jobs.
Work retail, get a mall discount
Summer hiring for retail work has begun early this year, so jump on the opportunity now. Teens hang out at the mall, so why not get paid for it? Traditionally, larger malls hire a few thousand teens for summer jobs, although the recession may force some older workers into such jobs. Learning sales and improving social skills are two benefits of mall work for teens. The customary mall discount may be more immediately appreciated, however.

What is Indeed.com?
“Indeed.com is a metasearch engine for job listings launched in November 2004.[1] As a single-topic search engine, it is also an example of vertical search. The site aggregates job listings from thousands of websites, including job boards, newspapers, associations, and company career pages. Job seekers do not apply for jobs through Indeed; they simply see job postings. Applicants can then decide which jobs are of interest and then go to the corresponding sites to apply. Indeed is currently available in 53 countries. Indeed is the only site available on 7 continents.[2] In October, 2010, Indeed.com slipped past Monster.com to become the largest job site in the United States.[3][4]” -From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Surf’s up! The best surf parks, surf pools and artificial waves
Friday, April 1st, 2011The artificial wave surfing era is coming. Progress is being made almost every month and the wave rides are getting almost perfect. In the next years, there will be a button for classic overhead barreling right-handers and another one for a beginner’s three-foot wave lesson.
Surf pools and surf parks are being installed everywhere, from Asia to North America. In Europe, the Instant Engineering Company developed what is considered the best artificial surf experience ever shown – the Wavegarden is no longer a prototype and is breaking barriers from the Basque Country, in Spain.
While the surf community and the surf entrepreneurs seem to be anxious to ride and multiply the beautiful Wavegarden, there’s one man taking notes. The Kelly Slater Wave Company promises the impossible and the best robotic surf ride of the history of the sport.
“Cool they made a wave, but I think you’ll all be very happy when you see what we have in store.
”, said Slater on his Twitter account, after the Wavegarden boys unveiled their own artificial wave.
Meanwhile, there are other interesting wave rides. In the Malaysia Theme Park’s Sunway Lagoon, you can hit the surf in the “world’s largest man-made surf beach, backed by the world’s largest wave churning machine”. For the Kuala Lumpur and regional surfers, it’s a good option.
Murphys Waves, a Scottish company, has already shown good work. This artificial wave machine generator has equipped Siam Park, in Tenerife, Spain, where Dany Bruch invented tow-in windsurfing. The ride is long and consistent.
In the Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park, every 90 seconds, waves crash to the shore of a pool that’s twice the size of a football field.
Flowrider (Wave Loch) and Surfstream (American Wave Machines) have developed and installed artificial static waves that generate endless joy rides. Their 360º business model is capable of turning the entire surf pool complex into a profitable activity. If the Seagaia Ocean Dome had understood what it takes to run a successful wave park, Japan’s innovative surf pool might have had another life.
Finally, the Weber Wave Pools, from Australia, present one of the cleverest technical suggestions for creating waves in the middle of nowhere. Greg Webber, the founder of the company, believes that his concept “makes multiple, real, perfect waves that continually break all the time. The riding time per wave is 60 seconds per minute”.
The main artificial wave surfing companies, surf pools, machines and Parks are:
Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon
Malaysia Theme Park’s Sunway Lagoon
Kelly Slater Wave Company
Siam Park (Murphys Waves)
FlowRider (Wave Loch)
Surfstream (American Wave Machines)
Wavegarden (Instant Engineering Company)
Weber Wave Pools (Liquid Time)
