Lifeguard Jobs- Security and Satisfaction

Wednesday, February 8th, 2012

One of the best part time or full time summer jobs is the position of a lifeguard. Ironically, younger people do not realize or consider this. Whether it is to find a job for just those summer months or a full time job possibly during college, the potential for earning as a lifeguard offers some of the best income. Not to mention this is a job that has plenty of job security and offers a great deal of satisfaction.

If you or someone you know is looking for guaranteed employment for summer or even year round work, getting your lifeguard training is the best step to take.

Getting Trained

Sometimes it can be challenging to find summer or full time jobs in areas such as Bethlehem, Pennsylvania or Cumming, Georgia, especially for those who do not already have experience in certain fields of professional expertise. Surprisingly, these are areas with high demand to fill lifeguard positions, and usually not enough people to staff the demand.

So, what about training?

  • Subsidized training is available, but keep in mind these spaces often fill up fast. The sooner you can get involved the better.
  • Training means getting your American Red Cross certification, which helps you for your career and your personal life. Having American Red Cross certification is something that looks good on your resume, even when you are applying for jobs not related to the field of lifeguarding, beside the fact that having this type of training can come in handy in your personal life, even when you are not on duty as a lifeguard.
  • The same thing is true for your CPR certification. Getting your training and certification in CRP can always end up helping you with both your personal and professional life.
  • You can find flexible jobs. For some people working as a lifeguard is a great way to fill in part time summer jobs. For others, there is plenty of opportunity for full time, year round work, even in areas such as Easton, Maryland or Mount Kisco, New York where steady work may be tricky to find. As much as you want to work, the hours as a lifeguard are there for you.
  • When it comes to cool jobs and good paying jobs, few rank as high as being a lifeguard.

There Is No Time Like the Present

If you are looking for something with steady hours and a good income that you can actually enjoy while you are clocked in, you should start your lifeguard training. The potential for jobs in areas throughout the U.S. is certainly there. You can have a career through high school, college and beyond.

Places you can find jobs include:

  • Local outdoor community pools for summer months in places such as Pottstown, Pennsylvania
  • Indoor swimming pools at fitness centers
  • Water parks during the summer months or year round in places that stay warm for a greater part of the year
  • Colleges with a pool for training for recreational use

With lifeguard training and certification, you could even relocate to an area with a climate that allows for outdoor water sports year round. The bottom line is that with the right training you can quickly be on your way to what some consider the ultimate career.

College hiring returns after two-year lull

Wednesday, July 6th, 2011

chart

After a two-year hiatus, major corporations are starting to hit college career-fair tables once again. Bank of America plans to offer 1,300 new graduates jobs in 2011, and Microsoft (MSFT) will visit more business schools, marking the first time the company has expanded its footprint since 2009.

Hiring of the young and talented may not be back all the way — Bank of America’s (BAC) new headcount goal is 10% to 15% higher than the last two years but is still close to 2008 levels. But with the school year wrapped, college career centers are finding that job opportunities are once again a reality.

Memorial Day Weekend Kicks Off The 2011 Summer Pool Season

Tuesday, May 31st, 2011

While summer doesn’t officially start until mid-June, Memorial Day Weekend traditionally marks the un-official start to the summer season. American Pool Enterprises, Inc. opened an additional 1,500 commercial pools this past weekend and are currently employing more than 5,000 lifeguards, with more job opportunities available.

American Pool Enterprises, Inc. has spent much of the spring preparing swimming pools for this past weekend. Memorial Day has traditionally marked the un-official start to summer and the official kick-off to the outdoor swimming pool season. In addition to making sure that the swimming pools are repaired, cleaned and opened on time, American Pool Enterprises, Inc. has also spent a good part of the spring months hiring and training our lifeguard staff. Hiring over 5,000 lifeguards for this 2011 season, APEI  has been busy instructing their entire lifeguard staff on how to provide a safe, enjoyable experience for all patrons of the swimming pools they service.

As the current recession drags on and many people are finding themselves unemployed, American Pool Enterprises, Inc. is offering what many companies currently cannot – available jobs. Before the season is over, APEI will have hired over 5,000 lifeguards and there are job opportunities currently still available. Offering flexible hours, with both full and part-time positions, the company hopes to help those in need of a job by providing the rewarding opportunity to become a lifeguard. Employment is available to anyone at least 15-years-old who becomes certified by a nationally recognized program. American Pool Enterprises currently offers free or discounted training to all its employees. Training information and an employment application is available at www.guardforlife.com. Lifeguard positions are available in the following locations: Long Island, NY; Hudson Valley, NY; Manhattan; New Jersey; Philadelphia; Pittsburgh; Baltimore; Ocean City, MD; Atlanta; Raleigh, NC; Woodbridge, VA; Washington, D.C. and surrounding areas.

When asked about their first weekend on the job, one lifeguard responded on the Guard for Life Facebook Page, “[It was] absolutely wonderful!” and another told us, “I love my job!”

There are many perks to being a lifeguard for the American Pool Enterprises, Inc. and large part of these is the Summer to Win promotion they’re offering. Lifeguards employed by APEI will be eligible to win one of 100 prizes totaling over $65,000 in value. The contest is a follow-up to the company’s successful $15,000 cash and prize giveaway in 2010 and the 2009 Guard for Life, Ride for Life promotion where a New Jersey lifeguard won a new 2009 Chevrolet Aveo.

The best summer jobs for teens!

Tuesday, April 26th, 2011

The recession has made getting a job more difficult for everyone, but if you’re a teenager looking for summer jobs, the competition can be overwhelming. Nothing ventured, nothing gained still applies, however – even at minimum wage. Here are some hot summer jobs that typically employ younger, less experienced workers.

The kids are alright, thanks to the babysitter

Baby sitting and nanny positions will always need to be filled, and responsible, energetic young people who remain cool under fire are a good fit. Laura Davis, owner of College Nannies & Tutors franchises in three states told Bankrate that her company places hundreds of teens in such summer jobs. Another company named Care.com has connections with thousands of local colleges that help connect prospective caregivers with families.

Make it a Meatballs summer

There are typically jobs available at summer camps for kids, including day camps, weeklong or for the entire summer season. If a teen is active and outgoing, teaching children about camping or canoeing can be a breeze. According to Sandy Blondin of Fox Valley Special Recreation Association of Aurora, Ill., there are numerous benefits for teens beyond a paycheck.

“Being on a summer day camp staff offers important skills in team building, leadership, problem-solving and child development,” she said.

Check out websites like American Camp Association, Summer Camp Jobs and Camp Channel for links to summer camp jobs for teens.

Test the waters of being a lifeguard

Warm summer temperatures mean that beaches, water parks and public pools around the country will be open for business. Career websites like Simply Hired have more than 1,000 summer jobs listed for lifeguards, and that’s just one site. For teens who are strong swimmers and have certifications in CPR and first aid, spending golden summer days by the ocean or pool is a slam dunk. The key is to apply now.

“These numbers are promising for those looking for employment this summer,” says Daniel Greenberg, chief marketing officer of Simply Hired.

Summer amusement at the park

Summer is the busy season for most amusement parks in the U.S., and seasonal jobs must be filled. According to Bankrate, Six Flags Great America near Chicago hires 3,200 season employees for groundskeeping, ticket sales and entertainment. Disney and other chains look to fill similar positions. Free park admission is typically a benefit of these summer jobs.

Work retail, get a mall discount

Summer hiring for retail work has begun early this year, so jump on the opportunity now. Teens hang out at the mall, so why not get paid for it? Traditionally, larger malls hire a few thousand teens for summer jobs, although the recession may force some older workers into such jobs. Learning sales and improving social skills are two benefits of mall work for teens. The customary mall discount may be more immediately appreciated, however.
